5:25 AM Tuesday, August 02, 1994 c:\house\503\readme.txt Welcome to HOUSE - Advanced Desktop For Windows - Version 5.03 This version corrects a couple minor bugs in version 5.0 concerning the mouse movements in the menu-bar. Previous versions could 'walk' a little before settling, especially on slower machines. This bug went unnoticed precisely because it can't be seen on a 486. I've also added support for WAV files with this edition, allowing you to hear WAV sound files as you click on them. SUGGESTED COMPUTER SYSTEM: A 486 is recommended, with VESA Video & 800x600 Resolution or more. You may experience some color problems if you have a limited display card. 32K colors or more are recommended. These suggestions are simply that..suggestions. HOUSE will run on almost anything that can run Windows 3.1, It's up to you. The program should run even on 286's. But slowly... WINDOWS 3.1 is required. SPECIAL NOTES: 1) If you are now using HOUSE and have CITYMAN as your SHELL, use the HOUSE install program with this package, or, be sure to change your shell to HOUSE.EXE and NOT CITYMAN. HOUSE is the suggested shell with this version. REMOVE previous versions of CITYMAN if you have them! Cityman is launched BY HOUSE at Winboot if HOUSE is your shell-- PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF CITYMAN SHOULD NOT BE USED WITH THIS VERSION OF HOUSE!!! Since older versions of CITYMAN will launch HOUSE if used at boot time, combining old & new versions could result in loop-loading! Not a pretty picture! 2) You should CLOSE an existing version of HOUSE if you are currently running one... BEFORE using the installation program or using HOUSE.EXE. 3) If you are using HOUSE from a BBS downloaded zip file, you can use the program immediately from the directory you unzipped this document to...but using the install.exe is still recommended at some point. This is because the installation can change your shell to HOUSE.EXE as well as do some other useful things like creating Windows HOUSES for Program Manager Groups, and Launching the HOUSEHLP.HLP Help file as well. As always, you must have VBRUN200.DLL to use HOUSE. It is available on most major BBS's for free. I hope you enjoy using HOUSE - Advanced Desktop For Windows - Version 5.03 It's the best yet and it really hums...just click a WAV file!
